Performing a basic search:

c) Press Enter or click the search icon
d) VocalBrief will display a list of recordings containing your search term or close matches
2. Advanced Search Tips
Our Elastic search with fuzzy logic enables more flexible and forgiving searches:
a) Fuzzy matching:
- The search automatically accounts for slight misspellings or variations
- Example: searching for “manag” might return results for “manage,” “manager,” and “management”
b) Phrase searches:
- Use quotation marks for exact phrases: “quarterly budget review”
- The fuzzy logic still allows for slight variations within phrases
c) Boolean operators:
- AND: narrows your search (example: budget AND forecast)
- OR: broadens your search (example: budget OR forecast)
- NOT: excludes terms (example: budget NOT forecast)
d) Wildcard searches:
- While less necessary due to fuzzy logic, you can still use:
- Asterisk () for multiple characters: manage
- Question mark (?) for a single character: wom?n
e) Search within specific date ranges:
- Use date filters to narrow down your search to specific time periods
f) Search by recording type:
- Use filters to search only within meetings, lectures, or podcasts
3. Filtering and Sorting Search Results
After performing a search, you can further refine your results:
a) Filtering options:
- By date: Sort results from newest to oldest or vice versa
- By relevance: Show the most relevant results first (leveraging Elastic search’s scoring)
- By recording type: Filter to show only meetings, lectures, or podcasts
- By duration: Filter recordings based on length
b) Sorting results:
- Click on column headers (if available) to sort results
- Options might include sorting by title, date, duration, or relevance score
c) Navigating search results:
- Click on a search result to open the recording
- VocalBrief may highlight the relevant sections of the transcript where your search term or close matches appear
4. Tips for Effective Searching
a) Embrace imperfect searches:
- Thanks to fuzzy logic, you don’t need to worry about perfect spelling or exact terms
b) Use natural language:
- The search engine is designed to understand context, so phrase your searches naturally
c) Leverage synonyms:
- The system may automatically include synonyms, but trying different related terms can broaden your results
d) Combine with other features:
- Use search results as a starting point, then use Ask AI or summaries for more context
e) Refine gradually:
- Start with broader searches and use filters to narrow down results if needed
Remember, VocalBrief’s Elastic search with fuzzy logic is designed to help you quickly locate information across all your recordings, even when your search isn’t perfect. This powerful feature significantly enhances your ability to find the information you need, making your VocalBrief experience more efficient and productive.
